My Lady Iris

At one point the garden was filled with so many irises, I couldn't walk 2 feet without seeing one. Iris versicolor or Northern Blue Flag and Iris sibirica or Siberian Iris influenced the costume and subsequent doll design. I love how petals of the iris point up and down to make a unique ornamental shape. And I especially loved the purple against the warm greens of its own foliage.

This art doll is made of fabric, rhinestones, yarn, polyester filling, wire, felt, thread, glue, and paint with a wooden machine-carved and hand-painted base. She is roughly 16" tall. She is currently on display at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond, Va. in the library until September 2021.
