My Lady Cecropia

This beautiful lady gets her namesake from the giant silk moth Hyalaphora cecropia, the largest moth in North America. I've been falling in love with moths this past year particularly in the Lepidoptera order. They are so lovely and cute to me and the fact that they live such short lives - less than a week - intrigued me even more.

She is made of fabric, polyester stuffing, paint, thread, cardstock, yarn, wire, felt, glue and crepe paper with a wooden machine-carved and hand painted base. She is roughly 18" tall. She is currently on display at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond, Va. in the library until September 2021.

Original costume inspiration.
